Found on the site of Tom Tom Heaven following tool, to change the Car-symbol on ALL older models ! clapping.gif

TomTom Heaven explorer:

http://www.tomtomheaven.com/index.php?opti...5&Itemid=29

Install the program under Windows (program is in French however, but easy to manage!):

1. Make a folder in the ROOT of your SD-card: /art/cars/ (in this folder you must place the Bitmaps)
2. Start TomTomXplorer (with your TT connected to your PC)
3. select the Bitmap you want to use (you must see the selected Bitmap in the upper right corner)
4. Enter on [Sauver] (wait till the program finish writing to your TT)
5. Enter on [Appliquer], accept the pop-up and wait till the program finished writing to your TT
6. Don't close the program yet
7. Disconnect your TT
8. End program
9. Reboot your TT (Off/On)

Voila: now you should have your own car-symbol . . . rolleyes.gif

I've installed the program and have created the folder art/cars in the root my TomTom 910 drive and is connected to the PC but when I start TomTom Heaven I get the following error message popup window that says "No Cursor installed on your TomTom" all I can do then is click okay which gets rid of the error window and the application stays open but then there is nothing I can click in the TT Heaven application to do anything.

Any ideas?

Cheers Al

In your cars-folder, you must have the car-bmp's . . . !

I think, you'll find some on this forum . . .

I have the same problem with this, yet I do have the art/cars directory on my Tom Tom and it contains the bmps of the cursors, but when you get that error, if your press Ok to clear the error pop up, you have nothing to click in the application. So you can't change the default cursor, as the pop up says there are no cursors on the device. I followed the installation instructions to the letter, but it still does not work on my Tom Tom.

Anyone had any luck with this, or know the answers please?
gadget_sa
Well I'm stumped - done the same as you Electric Warrior

Downloaded the TomTomHeaven Explorer file.
Unzipped on the PC.
Downloaded the zip file which gives you the arts/cars folder with all the bitmaps in and copied the to the Go.

Ran the set up programme and get the same eror message! Most frustrating!

Don't know if this helps but there is some info here

http://www.ozpoi.com/Change_tomtom_go_&...car_symbol.html
dexter
I have installed this on my computer, and it works on my Go510.

I found that after instruction 5, when it finished writing to your Tomtom, don't close the program or turn off the Tomtom, just pull the USB lead from the computer, this will cause the tomtom to reboot.
It worked for me.

Dexter
gadget_sa
Thanks for the info guys (last two posts) but I'm not even getting to step 3!!

Once the programme is instaled and begins to run it just bombs out saying "No Cursor Found"!!
dexter
Hello gadget_sa

Before you run the program.you must have one or more icons in the car folder on your Tomtom.

I have included a car icon that I have made, copy this to the Tomtom\art\cars\ directory.

Then run the program.

You should then see this Icon (mondeo) in step 3

Hope this helps Dexter
Electric Warrior
I can see the icon bmps in the cars directory when I run the windows program but you can't do anything with them as this error pops up. When you press Ok to get rid of the pop up the list of icon is greyed out and you can't do anthing with the program. I've uninstalled it and re-installed it a couple of times, but this still happens. sad.gif

Just a thought

You do have to have " Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 " installed ?

If it is installed you wil see it Contol Panel \ Add or remove Programs

Yes it is installed
Jolly Roger
Do you need a specific map version ? ( just thinking out loud blink.gif )
dexter
Thats a good point Jolly Roger.

It is working on my 510 with 6.75 maps.

Has anyone got this working with 6.60 or lower maps ?

I have just had a thought, I will reinstall my old 6.60 map later today and see if it works.

Cheers Dexter
vickyarcher
I've got it working on my 910 but had a bit of a Vista issue.

I made my own bmp using standard red as the background (same as all the others) in paint and saved it as a 24-bit bmp. When I loaded it on the 910 and used it as the symbol you could still see the red background. It seems that when paint on Vista saves the bmp it does something weird to the colours. If I compare my bmp to the originals the red looks different even though paint gives it the same values!

The only way I got round this was to make my own bmp on my laptop running XP and then put it on my Vista machine.
dexter
I have now loaded UK & Ireland v6.60.

And I can still change the car icons, so it is not a map version problem.

I am using windows XP.

Are the people who are having trouble using Vista?

Cheers Dexter
gadget_sa
Thanks for all the ideas guys...

I'm still at the same point as Electric Warrior... Programme runs and bombs out at step 3.

Running XP
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

TomTom 700 V7.162
WE Map V6.60
art/cars folder with 32 bmp images in

Boy all this for a Cadillac!!

I think thats covered all the ideas above... sorry.gif
dexter
Hi guys

I am running out of ideas

at stage 3. to you get the window like below.

cheers Dexter
Electric Warrior
Yes, I get that at stage 3, but also another pop up that says there is no cursor on the TomTom. You can do nothing until you click OK on that pop up, but when you do the pop up goes but then the bmps listed in the program become greyed out and nothing works anymore.

I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2 with .net framework 2.0
Tosca
Hi

i have done this with 510/300.the only way i could make it work is when it says (no cursor installed) or stage 3
is to just pull the usb lead, it will then reboot itself, then use the pin hole reset at the base. Then reconect to pc, let tomtom home start ,then start tomtom explorer, Then it let me install the new cursor. Without the pin hole reset i had the problems as you. hope it helps

Tosca.

Hi Dexter
Exactly where I get but my bitmaps are greyed out and I get the error window saying no cursors installed. That's with a go classic I was going to try my 700 but I think its going to be a waste of time. I tried the above doing a reset that don't work either. Shame

Hi Guys

Well I am stumped ?

Because I cannot produce that error that you are getting, I therefore can not find a fix.

Lets hope someone solves this problem soon.

Merry Xmas
ctxx24
I had the same prob here is how to fix it...uninstall the program then MAKE SURE your tomtom is connected to the pc and now install the program with tomtom turned on clapping.gif
Electric Warrior
Thanks ctxx24, that works a treat....one happy bunny here now. Thanks to everyone else and dexter for your help too. smile.gif
gadget_sa
One down...

Well done Electric Warrior.... but the advice from ctxx24 didn't work for me!!

Uninstalled TTHeaven, connected the GO and ran the setup procedure. Still bombs out!

Not sure how you managed to attach your screen pic to here but I have saved a word doc showing the before and after the error message.

As you can see, I have my GO connected, and everything else is as described before...
Can't believe this!!

Just another thought... I have "started" correctly haven't I?
I downloaded the zip file "tthxplrr.zip" and unzipped it on my PC. It gave me:

setup.exe
TomTomHeavenXplorer_1_0_0_38 (Folder containing 2 other folders and some "deploy" files)
autorun.inf
TomTomHeavenXplorer.application
TomTomHeavenXplorer_1_0_0_38.application
dexter
well done CTxx24,

Electric Warrior is now happy.

We still have to try and sort out gadget_sa

Those files look OK

When you reinstalled TomtomHeaven, your tomtom was connected and switched on ?

In desperation try pressing the reset buton on the Tomtom and try again.

Fingers crossed
gadget_sa
Certainly was Dexter (as in the screen-shot attached) shows my GO in the background and the art folder etc!

Going to try a reinstall of TTHeaven, but if that doesn't work, I'll try as above and take out the USB and do a reset and try that!

___________________________

Nope - no luck!!

Connected and started the GO
Started TTHeaven... bombed out!
Remove USB - Pinhole reset
Connected and started the GO
Started TTHeaven... bombed out again!!

Looks like I'll have to wait til the new year when I get the 720!!

Not quite sure what difference that link made Dexter... but it worked!! clapping.gif clapping.gif clapping.gif
Thanks mate, much appreciated!!!

To be honest, I translated the French page pretty much the same, but this time it just seemed to work...

Perhaps it was divine intervention being a Sunday and all that! lol

The difference is that the file from OzPOI has the default cursor in the cars folder where the zip file from TomTom Heaven doesn't, as soon as I downloaded the first zip from OzPOI with the default cursor in the zip fileand put that in the art/cars folder it worked a treat on my 910.

Also for those that may be interested Pocket GPS World has a large selection of user created symbols, I made one for my VW R32 and it is in their list. You can view and download all the symbols at the following link.

Another disappointing morning, tried all of the above several times and then decided to try the 700 and still the same error. Im gonna give the cat a good kicking and then ill have another go using my laptop wont hold my breath though
gadget_sa
Don't give up Channel, even if you have to kick the Cat 10 times!!

Use the link that Dexter gave a couple of Posts above and follow that... it worked a treat for me when I was on the verge of giving up!!

On the subject of own Vehicle bmp's....
I'd like one of my Rav4 just to finish the job.
Are they easy enough to create?

Cheers
Andy_P
Yeah, but why would you want one of a Rav4? spiteful.gif

(CRV owner here...)

They want to be 80x80 pixel 24-bit .bmp files. Get a picture of the car from above and behind, surround it with full red in a paint program (RGB 255,000,000). The red becomes transparent on screen. For most images, a 1 pixel white border around it helps visibility too.
kuai
Uninstall TomtomHeavenXplorer 1.0 and check your Tomtom so you really have the art/cars directly under the root.

Then install the program TomtomHeavenXplorer 1.0 again.
Do have your Tomtom connected to computer but close your Tomtom Home application.

Then you might even get the program to show up in english!

Hello gadget_sa

To make your own go here for instructions

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-custom-cursors.php

This is copied from the above site

Creating your own

1. Locate a suitable image or take a photo of your own car. The best cursors are those that are viewed from the rear but slightly above the car rather than from directly behind.
2. The image size should be re-sized to 80 x 80 pixels.
3. TomTom automatically sets any part of the image that is red (RGB 255,000,000) to transparent
4. For optimum results a continuous 1 pixel white border should be added around the cursor.
5. The image should be saved as .bmp (bitmap).

If you have trouble, send me a image of the rear of your car and I will have a go.

Really?
I only use Firefox, and granted I had my issues, but it worked eventually.... so I don't think that is the "surefire fix"

But glad it worked for you!
dexter
I only ever use Firefox.
But never mind as long as you got it working.

The version I downloaded from your link did say works with Internet explorer so I used it as I too always use firefox but it did the trick

I'm using a Tomtom V1 with Version 7.162-8492 and I've tried everything to change the cursor on my unit. I've done everything that has been mentioned on this forum and everything works as per the instructions, I get all the correct windows and list of cursors etc and I do not have any errors on screen. The unit appears to load but nothing is found except the 2 folders, Art and Cars (in the root directory) with the BMP images but the cursor does not change. What a pity! huh.gif
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I should have said that my unit is a Tomtom One V1 with the latest version 7.162-8492 software. unknw.gif

Has anyone found a way to change the symbol used on 2D map perspective?

This works fine on 3D. I have symbols for the VW Golf, VW Passat, LR Disco Series I (leaving the neighbors wondering why I was standing on the house roof taking a picture) and the young lady who's voice I have giving me the directions.

Wish list: application on the TT to be able to switch the symbols.
