Why on earth don't they ditch Teleatlas and use Navteq 100%! The lane in front of my house in Ireland is on the Navteq Map Reporter but doesn't exist on the Teleatlas Map Insight. I'm not paying TomTom big bucks if they're not prepared to give me the detail one would expect. What legally available options are there to buy/install software on a TomTom that comes with Navteq mapping?

phew, 107Euros for US/Canada.

I'll wait for someone to get it first. The last two maps had NO updates for two major Canadian cities - Vancouver and Toronto and in fact, Tim Horton's (our coffee shop) was removed from the POI database!!

Am I misreading this? Should that be six months later? I feel a bit cheated if that is the case because I bought the latest GB map just after the latest update and less than 6 months later there is another "new" map.

Nope... you're not misreading it... (but I do think it's a typo!!)
And I'm with you... feel very mistreated after getting new maps two months ago..

Oh, and there's this bit that really has got me ragged!!
Lastly, there's now also a map of Western and Middle Europe available. This one includes, apart from the standard Western European map, all available data on Czech republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.

Hellooooo, this is what we GO700 users had before the last upgrade when they took these Countries off us because the money making a**es wanted to penny pinch any way they could.... and now voila, you can buy the all in one again!!!

It also appears they have sparked something with the SDK chaps too.... they know how to kep their Customers happy....NOT!!!!

I will be writing to these morons to show how hacked off I am, and I know I'lll get nowhere with them... but I don't particularly care... I will not be upgrading my maps, and when my unit breaks... I'll go elsewhere....

Time for a beer!

[smug mode]

I didn't buy the western Europe map in the aurumn because I was hoping for a "real" 700 map upgrade. And now it seems there is one - and it arrived this year BEFORE I go on holiday!!

It was indeed a typo. Was meant to be 'a half year later', but now I've corrected it to 'six months later' just to remove all confusion. smile.gif

Just checked and I downloaded the 6.6 version last November for GB and Ireland - cost 48 euro

Some 5 months later there is this new version of GB and Ireland on offer and the cost is 60 euro

Also there is the offer of Western Europe at 100 euro which has:

Detailed seamless map fully covering Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France, Monaco, Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxemburg, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. Street network coverage: 99%

Now I have a TT500 and IIRC its not possible to navigate across borders without changing maps, unless someone knows better.

If you go for the seamless map (MOWE) then you can quite happily plan trips across Europe without switching Maps, but if you have your UK and Eire map and the MOWE then yes, you'd have to switch maps!

Hi Guys,

In the past I have purchased the new maps as soon as they have become available and I have always been disappointed that the roads around where I live are never updated.

Question Is there a way to check what is covered in the new maps.

Thanks

I understand that Google earth use the same maps so have a look at them for your area. I think you can verify the date the google map was updated. I'll check again when I get time.

You can also use TeleAtlas' MapInsight or Navteq's site to check.

For those in NA, these new 07 maps are the same as the "free" ones. i.e. it's 665.1293.

I'm afraid I wouldn't trust either Google Maps or the TeleAtlas/Navteq sites to tell you what the TomTom maps have on them. TomTom have always been way behind what their suppliers have available.

Is this the first of the "take it or leave it" map upgrades from TomTom? I think that last year they were proposing map upgrades every three months? At the price they are charging, no private user is going to buy upgrades that frequently, surely?

So, if updates are available frequently, you just upgrade whenevr you get completely fed up with the old one. But you need enough info to know that you will be happy with the newer map - otherwise you become a Garmin customer!

I have downloaded and installed the new GB & ROI maps for my Tomtom One (Regional). The Map was installed in a new folder on my SD card, so I had to manually change the map that the device was using to the new version. I then had to copy all of my POI's and favourites (.cfg file) into the new folder.

This all seamed rather alot of effort to upgrade a map. Did I miss something that meant it could have been a a far slicker process?

Thanks

Muflon

Nope, as far as I know, it doesn't get any easier than that.
That's why we see so many "why have I lost my favourites and POIs?" questions on the forums.
TT could have made sure all the map updates had the same names so the old files were overwritten, but I suppose that would have upset some people too.

At least you knew what you had to do. I remember one map update where although the map folder had a different name, the on-screen name was the same so people had no idea which one to select
A lot of people also moaned that there were no improvements on their new map because TT hadn't told them they should switch over, so they were still using their original one!

Thanks Andy_P! That puts my mind at rest.

It would be nice if TomTom Home could have offered you the option of creating a new map folder or overwriting an existing one. It could also have offered to copy your favourites.

Hi all

I'm looking to but a TomTom One Europe. If I buy from my retailer in the next few days, how do I know if I'm getting the new maps or the old ones?

Another thing I can't get my head around - does the new map update deliver any benefit for the Tom Tom One Europe (i.e. NavTeq maps)?

Also, if I get the old ones, my understanding is that I'd need to stump up ¤100 for new maps. Is this right?

Thanks
Dave
