Dammit, i'm going on a long drive Wednesday (3hrs, Ramsgate to Wiltshire), and when i saw the email about this i rushed to download HOME and install it. But as i was doing so i saw it had been pulled.

At least i have a working TomTom (with Favorites) for the trip. Here's hoping the re-release a fixed version tomorrow. The new features look great.

I'm off to Tenerife tomorrow and was all set until I heard about this alleged 'upgrade'.

I'll wait until the upgrade has been 'trialled' first now, I think... wink.gif

I updated my ttg 500 earlier today and have to say the update was flawless, my Samsung D600 now connects for hands free calling and the navigate to Lat/Long is perfect for my hobby of hill wallking (no, I don't drive to the top of the hills but the start point of most walks is nearly always a car park in the middle of the back of beyond!)
One gripe, however, my PGPS camera warning voices no longer work - if I replace the data.chk in the ttg root with the camera voices data.chk (Liz) my ttg won't boot, so I'm back to the ridiculous boings, bells, beeps and animal noises!
I didn't like the page menu layout so I put my own tomtom.mnu in the SdkRegistry.

Maybe 6.13? will fix the data.chk

That's probably because the voices data.chk file (from Ray's site) is specifically for 5.420, we will need to wait for Ray's site to get an updated one (which will require the V6 SDK perhaps??) rather than see a firmware fix.

I take back my gripe about the Pocket GPS speed camera voices.
If any body is interested in swapping the cows and cuckoos, etc. for real voice warnings try,

Pocket GPS World Customised POI

For TT's v6.12 software, download the v6.11 on the link [7020] - I had the original 5.450, that's why 6.12 didn't like it.

ps:
Just read your post Mossman (as I was previewing this one), you're quite correct, wrong version!!

The new firmware installed just fine on my Classic. I'm not sure what the problems were, but if you want to play with the software, you can find it here:

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?acti...39B2203389393DA

Read the 'Read Me' file. It suggests how you might install it (impossible for me to test). Hope it works!

46jimbo's post worked for me, I just had to edit the path in the .toc file to point to my directory.

I like the ability to control my Tomtom from the computer, although I have no idea why...

Nigel,

as per what sbessel said, you need to edit your .toc file in notepad and correct the address, either that or extract it EXACTLY where it tells you to in the readme. Once you have done that it should appear in the middle section with all of your 'downloads' then, You just click on it then click 'install' and it should work.

Rough description i know, but hey... the firmware works 100% for me. very happy.

Copied files to my user directory as per instructions and no install. Even copied to Administrator folder.

Anyone know the fix?

Works like a charm here as well, on a Mac updating a ONE through HOME. Just edited the path in the toc file.

Hmmm ok... thinking about it...(which i should have done in the first place) it won't work copying it to Administrator (i led you astray). You need to edit your .toc file that is in the supplied zip. So here are the step by step instructions.

1.Unzip your files to the c:/documents and settings/XXXXXXXX/my documents/tomtom/home/downloads directory ***(Where XXXXXXXX is your computer username/windows login)

2. Navigate to this directory and right click the navcore_6120.toc file and select 'open'
3. It should ask you how you want to find the program to open it with. choose 'select program from list'
4. once the list is on the screen scroll down and highlight notepad then make sure that the tickbox saying 'always open this file type with this program is NOT selected'
5. The file should now open in notepad
6. Towards the bottom of the file you will see the following:
file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/My%20Documents/TomTom/HOME/Downloads/navcore_6120.cab

The only thing you need to change is the section in BOLD above. change this to be EXACTLY the same as XXXXXXXX as mentioned in step one (your computer username/windows login). Save the file and close notepad.
7. Shutdown Tomtom HOME and restart it. You should then see the update listed under your downloads in the centre of the screen. If you click it, then select 'install' it should all update successfully.

If you insist this is exactly what you are doing and are still having problems, can you please describe what problems you are having exactly with the update process? IE. Is the update showing in your HOME program?

Hope this helps. BTW, I take no responsibility if you bugger this up, but thats how i done it so it should work, if you really aren't sure, consult someone who may be able to help you in person.
right click on it and select 'open'. then choose 'select a program on my computer'
