For the last week or so I have logged in, only to be sent back to the login page to do it again. Anyone else had this happen? I also could remain logged in even after leaving the site. When I returned I just carried on as if I hadn't left. It's a mystery!!!!!

No problems hear, What browser are you using?
I have Google Chrome so automatically saves log in details...

Try clearing cookies etc out of your settings

Same problem here (using the latest version of Firefox on an iMac) - I have to login every time I visit the forum whereas previously I was kept logged on until I chose not to be.

No problems here (two PCs - one on Firefox 2 and the other on Firefox 3).
I have always stayed logged in if I come back to the same PC, but am logged out if I access the site on the other.

I'll move this to the "About this site" section....

Do you log out after each visit Steve?

The point I was making (and I think the OP was too) is that previously if had not logged out, and had the "remember me" box ticked, then I was still logged in when I next visited the forum (as is the case with other forums I am a member of). Now I have to login at every visit here.

Ah yes... I, or should I say the wife.... has had that issue on other sites - Ebay, M&S and debenhams to recall a few.

I now don't tick any remember me boxes and have no issues.
As long as the PC is on, I can revist the pages anytime without relogging in, but if you shutdown then you have to log back in... no biggie though, less hassle than bouncing around Homepages!!

I had noticed on this and other sites that sometimes I remained logged in and sometimes I did not. I experimented using two different machines at two locations to see if there was a logical explanation. Both machines had XPPRO SP3 and IE7. The results are summarised below.

On PC1 entered site, still logged in from previous use. Shutdown and restarted PC1, still logged in.
On PC2 entered site, not logged in. Logged in and remained logged in after shutdown and restart.
On PC1 entered site, not logged in. Did not log in and closed site.
On PC2 entered site, still logged in.
On PC1 entered site, not logged in. Logged in and checked that remained logged in on PC1 after shutdown and restart of PC1.
Moved PC1 to new location using different internet connection, entered site, not logged in.

From this it seems that you remain logged in if you use the same machine and internet connection but you are no longer logged in if either of these changes. It seems likely that it is the IP address that needs to remain the same between site accesses. As both my IP addresses are fixed it was not possible to see the effect of a change in IP address at one location.

Oddly enough, I have just accessed the forum after this morning's post at 9.39am or whatever, and found that I am still logged in!!

This is the first time in weeks that this has happened.
