It is often pretty annoying to try to read this board, as pages often load quite slowly. For a long time I thought the site itself was slow, but then I noticed that the delay most often was waiting for googlesyndication.com, googleanalytics.com, but above all www.jouwad.nl. So it really seems the slowness is mostly due to slow dutch ads. Is there anything that can be done about it - of course I might locally block www.jouwad.nl, but that doesn't solve the problem for anyone else...

I use Firefox (v3), installing the addon Ad-Block Plus cured that for all sites for me The ads are there for a reason. They help us pay for the site. Please keep in mind that, if you use an ad blocker, you're undermining the existence of free sites like ours. Because no more ads mean no more income which will inevitably lead to the site going offline. There's no gain in that for anybody. |

The ads are there for a reason. They help us pay for the site. Fully understand that, but you might still talk to jouwads.nl and let them know that their ad system seriously slows down your site and that your users aren't too happy about it. If other ad companies can do it right, why not jouwads.nl? |

Jouwads.nl is the same company as the people behind this site. So if there is anybody who can do something about it...
I can't personally, cause I'm not involved in the technical side of the site. But I have passed your request through. |

I get that of course and respect is due for what you do, I am extremely supportive of the people like you who put in the effort to provide this type of service. I think that unless you get paid for just delivering or displaying the adverts without any interaction from me, I doubt I am potentially reducing your income as I never respond to online adverts anyway and I never buy online. There are some sites I don't frequent as in the pre-adblock days, I found them slow waiting for ads to appear and that steered me to browse elsewhere. For the record, I never found this site too slow and would here with or without ads. And last point, I would be quite happy to subscribe for a totally ad free environment and to offset any real loss my actions cause. I think that unless you get paid for just delivering or displaying the adverts without any interaction from me, I doubt I am potentially reducing your income as I never respond to online adverts anyway and I never buy online. That's where you're wrong. Not all ads work like that. Google Ads eg., which represent the lion's share of ads on this site only bring in money if they are clicked. (so if you want to suport this site, you know what to do now. And last point, I would be quite happy to subscribe for a totally ad free environment and to offset any real loss my actions cause. That's very nice and fair of you, but you have to understand that most users do not share your point of view. I wished they did, but they don't. Most of them are not willing to actively pay for this kind of service. It's because of this we have to refer to the only other possible alternative: displaying ads. There's simply no other way if you want to stay alive. |
