I have a Mio 269 plus. Can anyone tell me how to get full postcode search. I have been offered a software upgrade for a pretty rich £90, but cannot ascertain whether this has the full postcode facility. Also, should this unit loose its charge if left unused for a couple of weeks? Mine always needs completely resetting when I start again. Finally, is a software upgrade reliable? I refer to the installation which, I have heard, can be tricky.
Many thanks for your help, Anthony |

I've no detailed knowledge of the Mio 269 plus, but the manuals for both the MioMap software and the Hardware are available from HERE.
I had a quick look at the manual for the latest MioMap software, and it didn't give any definitive answers, but there were a couple of things that seemed to imply it DOESN'T. At the bottom of page 64 it says about entering SOME of the postcode and then picking the result you want from a list, and goes on to mention that in the NETHERLANDS you can enter the entire 6 digit postcode and not have to select a street. Then on page 69 there is a screenshot showing some recent destinations, with addresses such as "Trumpington Road, Cambridge CB2 2" Where I guess the final "2" is the house number, not part of the postcode. I'm not saying that it CAN'T use full postcodes in the UK, but going just on that manual, it looks like it. |

My wife has a 268 - we're also mulling the MioMap upgrade. As for the battery, these devices are effectively PDAs with a dedicated OS; when the battery goes flat then you have to reset - we have to all the time.

I presume you guys are referring to the Miomap 3.2 upgrade thats available. Basically, the 7- digit postcode search does work in this version, but its accuracy is questionable to say the least.
With regard to the upgrade procedure its in two parts: Firstly you must upgrade the OS on the unit - this is the dangerous part - one false move and the unit will die. You have to access a special boot screen ( blue with white writing) that gives you options, the options are clear but choosing the right one and selecting it is tricky. If you select "UBOOT" by mistake your unit instantly becomes a paperweight and Mio will not rectify it FOC for you. The second part - software and maps is much easier and carries minimal risk. In short - if you are unsure of your technical ability, or have "shaky fingers" dont attempt it yourself. Ive upgraded hundreds of these units at work and the OS upgrade part scares me every time! |
