TomTom have released updated POI files for doctors, Dentists etc for the UK!

http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=7892&Lid=1

Edit 22/12/07 - TT have finally ALSO added links to download the missing "Help Me" guides on the same page smile.gif

Edit 21/2/08 - I can now confirm that these add-ons are not needed if you have v715 maps as they have been included in the normal supplied POIs

I do apologise! I left off the link! blush.gif

It's not a Mapshare update but an actual download...

Mmm, Doctors.
Well not quite, not in the true sense of Medical Practitioners.
I would question herbalists, alternative medicine, orthopaedic care equipment and osteopaths which comprise about fifty percent of my download as, well problematic.
I can see a little bit of pruning is going to be required here.

Can you just delete the ones you don't want to have, or is it a case of all or nothing??
I would love to get rid of the French ones, but not sure how or if you can.

As the French ones are part of the original POI.dat file, mixed in with all the other built-in POIs, you can't easily get rid of them.
But if there are now loads of UK ones, I would have thought you wouldn't see the French ones very often any more, as only the nearest 24 are listed.

Only by deleting the relevant POI's in your local area:
Map Corrections, Correct a map error, Edit POI, POI near you, (followed by the POI in Question),
Select the POI, then you will be given a multiple choice as to what you wish to do with it.

But if you do that, and you are subscribed to Mapshare, they will end up being deleted off EVERYONE's machine!

Managed to get all of the UK ones for my 520 except for the one with the doctors. I keep getting an error message on the site. Have sent a message to support, so will probably get a reply when hell freezes over.
Has anyone else had trouble getting this file?
Below is a screencap of the error message I got.

Yeah, several people have had the same problem. I got the first one no problem, but it took several goes to get the rest.
Just keep trying.

Be interested to see what you think of them.

For a start, I've found they are dreadfully formatted. Most Doctors, or example, don't have the surgery name, just a single person, often in lower case sometimes surname first sometimes not. Names are truncated, often in the middle of words

Also, more worryingly, I've already found MASSES of errors (eg I apparently have a dentist near me called "Competitive mortgages" and a Doctor called "European Souvenirs"! and I keep spotting entries with names including "Holborn" or "Barbican" or "Haringey" when I'm nowhere near those places.

Not impressed so far. I reckon that after foolishly adding the "Help me" menu, they've had so many complaints that they've panicked to find the first chunk of data they can get and rushed it out unchecked.

EH?

Totally different situation!
You were suggesting Lyngarth deleted POIs that were correct (He said "I would love to get rid of the French ones") whereas I'm trying to get these ones right.

So ive got all those new POI the one that im worried about is the doctors its not got one where i live and thats been there for over 30years,Also it comes up with a opticians name which is correct but what is not correct is the location it should be in my town but its in another town thats 20minutes away

How reliable are these Help Me Doctors/Dentists etc..

Yeah it's fine to resurrect the old topic if it's relevant to your problem smile.gif

But the answer is they aren't very good at all, just a lot better than nothing.

This is what I said earlier in this thread:

Thats good i can resurrect old threads smile.gif

I know you have said about the bad routes in the thread but i thought ToTom might of updated them by now

Now im thinking it could be to do with my maps because i read this of the tom website

Note:
The files offered in this article are only compatible with map version 7.05 or higher

Ive got Map: v605.0

But i still dont see how it would mess up the routes,Ive even noticed that some say they are in one town when its not but when i look at the directions they direct you to the right town
