I found this information on another forum website and I am copying it here because it may save some 910 users hours of pain!
If anyone upgrades their x10 to 7.16 and finds out it only boots to the splash screen then do the following: 1. Reset the device to turn it off using a paper clip near rear connector. 2. With TomTom Home running and the device on the dock, turn it back on and allow it to connect to the computer (the TT should have the green computer picture showing). 3. Click the "My TomTom" or "operate my device" link and first of all use the device on your screen in the 'simulator'. After you've used the device via the computer, it should then boot normally. No idea why this works, but it's worked for me and several others. -------------------- GO 910

Hello Have tried installing navcore 7 to my 910 and it does not appear to have loaded onto it. I have downloaded it with home and it says copying and then i switch the 910 on and its still on 6.525 Any suggestions James I have tried installing Navcore 7 through Tom Tom Home onto my 910 five times and each time after installing with home and rebooting the 910 it just hangs on the splash screen forever. I have to use a pin and reset the device eventually and then use Home to go back to 6.525 which always reinstalls perfectly and flashes the firmware no problems on my 910. Anyone else had this problem. I have re-downloaded the V7 software three times because I thought it might have been corrupted but to no avail. I'm using Home with Vista could this be a problem? The "operate from home" trick worked for me. But I have some other major problems regardig screen hangs and bluetooth operation - so I need to go back v6 for now - can you confirm how you are regressing to the 6.525 version (I restored a backup to mine - and it resulted in 7.160 - the backup was taken pre v7 - so the restore obviously didn't work properly - and now it doesn't talk anymore - so isn't actually much use!) Is it as simple as finding it in the list and telling it to install (another issue I have is the PC that had all my previous backups/updates/home died this weekend - I can recover the data but the system is unbootable - so I will have to get home to find the old "updates")...... Does anyone know of a process to "start again" with a 910 ? Malarcy |

Upgraded my 910 with no problems. However I now find that the map display now has a media icon on the left hand side that I can't seem to turn off.
Anyone know how to disable this? -------------------- TomTom GO 910 App: 7.903 (9183/040301) Western & Central Europe map: v825.2158 RDS/TMC: 4V00.013 HOME: 2.5.1.36

I need to go back v6 for now - can you confirm how you are regressing to the 6.525 version You need to use TomTom Home 1.5 or 1.6. You can't downgrade in 2.x as far as I know. So download and install 1.6 from TomTom, run it, and hover over the Applications in the middle column to find 6.52. Check the box next to that and then click the Install button at the top. You may need to delete the 7.x application off your TomTom first (don't worry, the device will still work for the purposes of transferring files). Let me know if this works. |

Upgraded my 910 with no problems. However I now find that the map display now has a media icon on the left hand side that I can't seem to turn off. Anyone know how to disable this? Do you have an entry in the 'Changepreferences' menu for 'Quickmenu preferences'? Lots of things to add or take away. If you have one thing ticked, you get that icon, if you have several, you get a green menu arrow, and if you don't have any ticked, the icon should disappear. |

This is my experience upgrading my 700...
I got notification that HOME 2.1 and Navcore 7 were available. Updated HOME, then Navcore....700 wouldn't boot! Phoned TomTom (who answered within two rings) who said they'd email me with the instructions to fix. Email arrived by the time I put phone down. The nub of it is: - HOME 2.1 does not work well with the original GO series (Classic/3/5/700) and TomTom recommended I stayed on 1.5 - They sent the following instructions which worked perfectly - and I now have a fully functional 700 again: QUOTE 1. Connect your TomTom to your computer and then turn the TomTom ON. 2. Wait a few seconds for the TomTom to establish a connection with your computer and then enter the My Computer window on your computer and find the icon for your TomTom. Double click this icon to view the contents of your TomTom. 3. Select All of the items stored on your TomTom (Click "Edit" at the top of the screen and then "Select All") and then make a "Copy" of all of the items (Click "Edit" and then "Copy" while all of the items are still selected). You will not notice a change when you click "Copy" in the "Edit" menu. 4. Go to your Desktop and create a new folder (Right click a blank space, hover over "New" and then click "Folder" in the pop-up menu). Name your New Folder "TomTom Backup" for example (something that will be easy for you to remember). Double click the new folder to open it up and then click "Edit" at the top of the screen and then "Paste". The files from your TomTom will then begin to transfer into the new folder. Do not disconnect your TomTom from the computer while the files are transferring. Some of the files are very large and it may take several minutes for the data to transfer completely. After the backup copy is finished, FORMAT your TomTom's memory card : 1. Enter the "My Computer" window on your computer and locate the icon for your TomTom. 2. Right click the TomTom's icon and then click "Format" 3. When the format wizard window appears click "Start" inside of the format wizard window. 4. A warning message will appear; Click "OK" to begin formatting (it is safe to format as long as the complete backup has been created first). After the TomTom is formatted, open the TomTom HOME program on your computer to install the update : 1. In the list of options on the left side of TomTom HOME click "Explore". 2. In the middle section of the screen, click the small square to the left of the "Application" that you want to install. 3. Click the big green "Install" button at the top of the middle section. 4. Wait for the update to finish (it will usually take a few seconds). When the update is complete, minimize the TomTom HOME screen and return to your Desktop. Having successfully installed the update, it is now time to restore the necessary elements from your backup back onto the TomTom : 1. Open the backup folder that you created on your desktop and right click the folder for your map (Great Britain PLUS, for example) and then left click "Copy" to prepare the folder for copying (again, you will not notice a change when you click "copy". 2. Go into your My Computer window and locate the icon for your TomTom and open it up. Click "Edit" at the top and then "Paste" to begin the copied Map folder transferring over onto your TomTom. The map will take a few minutes to transfer, as it is quite large. 3. After the map is finished copying, repeat steps 1 and 2 to copy the "Voices" folder (so, select and copy the "Voices" folder from your backup this time instead of the map) from your backup back onto your TomTom. And after the "Voices" folder is transferred, repeat steps 1 and 2 to copy the "Zip" folder back onto the TomTom. After the Map, voices and zip folders are transferred back onto your TomTom, you are nearly finished. Link your device to TT Home and log in using the globe in the bottom left corner. It will automatically search for updates and install the lastest software to run your map data. Once you have followed the onscreen instructions and the software has been installed you can disconnect your device from the PC and it will be functioning correctly again. By the way...also upgraded to the latest Western Europe map and now have MapShare working as well. The best support I've ever had from TomTom. |

Andy63.... The Doctor/Dentist etc POIs have always been like that, you just haven't had the 'Help Me' menu making it so obvious before! I suspect TomTom have been inundated with complaints, as they have now rushed out some additional POI files. See this topic for the link and some comments... Mapshare.... needs v6.75 maps or later to work. Sounds... Are you using TT's own camera database or another (probably Pocket GPS World's). There is certainly a way round it for PGPSW's and very possibly for TT's but I need to know which first. Jed... are you not getting the Map Corrections item in the main menu (page 2 on a 720) Andy_P - yes now that I've tinkered a bit more I see it clearly, and have 'updated' a couple of items in Prague already. I've chosen the options to download others updates, but unfortunately you don't seem to have visibility of WHAT you are downloading, in case there are bogus updates... clues? -------------------- TOMTOM GO 910 (with Fluffy Dice)

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a "Quick menu preferences" in any of the 7 sub-menus in "Change Preferences" menu.
Sounds as if I'll need to dig around with Windows Explorer via a USB link to see if I can track it down. Upgraded my 910 with no problems. Hi Guys - A question...
It is my understanding (and I have been wrong many times before) that the OS - essentially in this case Navcore 7 is available free and its the Maps that you have to pay for. So... hypothetically if i copied a ver of Navcore 7 from another TomTom unit, but still used my own legitimate maps, that came with my TomTom when I bought it...that would be legal. - Correct? Kav |

I don't think there can be bogus updates. The updates are either verified by TomTom by hand or have been uploaded by lots of different users and so are unlikely to be incorrect. No one user can cause a map change to be published.

@kavg
Yes, Navcore is free, but why would you copy it from another unit when TomTom HOME can download it for free anyway? |

Yeah, but why you would to? Isn't it easier just to let TomTom Home download it for you? That way you would also get the related updates such as MapShare info at the same time. If you brick your TomTom by installing the software this way, I guess you will void your warranty as well. This post has been edited by NickG: Nov 1 2007, 14:54 |

1. All, when I was downlaoding the update for my 910, it showed the update file twice in the list PLUS the NL and GB postcode updates.
I downloaded the one duplicate Navcore 7 update and that took 30 mins and I couldn't wait to download the duplicate, so I clicked 'cancel'. I was able to instal version 7x, no probs BUT I can't seem to see/get the postcode updates anymore, any clues. 2. I was also prompted to download latest version of TT HOME.... I tried (I.m on 1.5) and all it downloads are GPS Quickfix and component to connect to Outlook address component. I separately download TT HOME from TT site but is does not upgrade the version (I choose Modify, not repair or remove) Cheers Jed -------------------- TOMTOM GO 910 (with Fluffy Dice)

Here is the reason:
I did an upgrade of my 500 to Navcore 7.160 through home, to a 2GB SD card and that was successful - everything worked fine - except the Map share feature - No probs because I will sort it out later. I was however rather dissappointed that it was the "Light" version, so did not include a number of really cool stuff, such as Music & Media, as well as "Change Car Symbol", "Auto Zoom", Quick Menu" etc... Etc... So... as an experiment (no intention of actually using), on a new 2GB card, I copied a ver of Navcore 7, With all the cool features, and copied my original maps to it and fired up my unit. It worked perfectly, No hanging or crashing... it Played MP3's, and got a slideshow of my kids on it... I even managed to change my Car symbol... at this point I decided not to use it since I did'nt know if it was legal (hence Just an experiment) so I decided to ask the question. If It is legal -then I'm a VVV happy bunny --Kavg |
