I just bought the 940 LIVE and was much dissapointed by the box content! Especially when I phoned TomTom about iPod connection which many websites advertised as included in the mount!!! (and it looks like TT is going to make us pay for it). In general the 940 as a premium product comes incredibly under-accessorized.

The company clearly changes its policies and takes a heading for the 'customer rip-off' course. Even the 930 had the wireless remote and RDS transmitter included in the box so why not 940??? I'm not going to subscribe to LIVE services after the trial so effectivly I will be forced to purchase EXTRA mount (one that has the RDS connector) and EXTRA transmitter - paying EXTRA for something that was included as standard in the previous versions!!!

Uterly dissappointing.

I'll be sticking to my 910.

Couldnt use the 20 or 30 series as no proper docking station (I'm not plugging in power, ipod, Traffic and remote antenanae every time I get in)

Now the 40 doesnt even have the ability to connect to my radio or take an external aerial. How are you supposed to get it to work in a car with a heated screen!

No remote and the need for a SIM just kill it totally

As usual TT, get it wrong. What we want is an updated 910. not a downgrade

Any recent device (x20/x30/x40 or the ONE's) should have absolutely no problem with a heated windscreen.

In fact even the older models could usually cope with them. It's the heat-reflecting "athermic" screens the old models had trouble with, but the newer ones cope fine with those too.

There are several third-party active mounts available for those models.

Both the active mount and the remote are available as extras. (I certainly feel they should be included at the price they are asking , though).

And AFAIK, you don't *need* a SIM, that's only for the Live services. But if you don't need those, you don't really need the x40 series anyway.

Yep, no problems with heated screens.

The SIM is built-in so no need to worry about this one, but as for active cradle - they didn't even released one yet!!! The one you get is power connector only. No iPod no TMC.

And the idea to pay for the remote AND new cradle AND tmc receiver is simply ridiculous as those were included in the previous 'flagship' models.

As far as I know they were originally intending to send out the mount with line out and iPod etc. with them (or at least with the 940). No idea why they changed their minds.

But they certainly do exist... I'm looking at one right now wink.gif

You sure that's a real ACTIVE cradle? The one they call 'active' and sell on the website only has the power connector - same as the one sent out with the unit. And when I called them about it 10 days ago they couldn't give me a date when the proper cradle would be released...

Just wish I still had the 940 to go on it! (I had one on beta test but it developed a fault and had to go back).

And the reason the "live" services can't be provided via a bluetooth linked mobile phone with a data plan?

I already pay my mobile phone company every month for (limited) unlimited data. I'm sure the live services could be half or even a quarter of the price if users we're forced into the unnecessary vodafone data subscription.

Must be my landrover then, as I have 3 GPS's running on the dash (for off road nav). None of them work well without external aerials. My 910 works fine with the external GPS and any replacement MUST have this function

The 940 doesnt have a true active mount available. Only power is active, just like most brodit and other so called "active" mounts for the 910. Early demo units did have a more active mount, but its not publically available

I would think that has something to do with the agreement between Vodafone and TomTom. The data for the traffic info is gleaned from Vodafone users via Vodafone.
I agree it seems a bit silly if you are already are a Vodafone user with a data plan.

There is an issue with the price of the Live services and the targetted audience especially those already paying for Vodafone data. For lower mileage users who would love to have HD Traffic but cannot afford the cost perhaps a pay as you go system would be the way forward just charging you for those days that you use the service.
