Hi
Just upgraded to V8 of the software - I know .. not supposed to work on a Go 700 .. but it does and very well too, and I like to "play" ... - and the only thing "missing" that V7 had is the Auto-power-on feature, which I liked. Auto-OFF works well.. is there any code - not publicised - that can be changed to give back auto-ON ?? There are no "settings" as such in the options.. just wondering if a software wizard knows of a code line change that can be done/added anywhere ??? regards Entwood -------------------- **********************

I would assume that as V8 has'nt been released to other than X30 series users you are using a pirated copy. So I dont think you will get much help here

The OS software is obtainable without any problem, from the TT site, if you "play their system".
I'm NOT discussing maps, which are a different matter as they have to be purchased. TT have never charged for OS upgrades, so there is no element of "pirating" here whatsoever. -------------------- **********************

I am afraid there is no way to add auto-on feature. Many many people would be happy if this would be an option.
As for using v8 navcore on older devices (not maps). Technically it's somewhere in the gray area, as probably you will be breaching TomTom EULA, on the other hand there is no "damage" which you could express in terms of $$$ done to TomTom for using new software on older devices and all software upgrades were and are available for free. Maps on the other hand is another issue. |

Have you complained to TomTom?
If enough people do complain, that's the only way we'll ever get it back. |

I haven't complained - and don't think I'd get far anyway ... using unauthorised software !!
As an aside.. I've gone back to 7.162 ... I had a car problem that caused power fluctuations and corrupted the disc, a reformat then reinstall the backup sorted it. I saw very little difference using V8 with the old map - lets face it .. most of the "improvements" seem to need V8 maps as well, so gone back to a known functioning system. I have seen a 700 using V8 software and V8 maps - obviously illegal versions - and find it a somewhat weird business plan by TT that they don't make this available for legacy versions.. they seem to think folks will ditch a perfectly useable device just to buy their latest gizmo .. sorry .. it's not happening here .. I'll use the 700 until it breaks, then replace it .. and probably not with a TT... simply due to the lousy "customer service" .. methinks they should read a dictionary and learn what that phrase means !! -------------------- **********************

Yes, I'm sticking with the 700 until it breaks.
I use it in conjunction with the built-in satnav in the car. The built-in has no flexibility and you can't add Points of Interest etc. Costs a fortune to update and if you want to plan a route the day before, you have to sit in the car in the dark, in the street, with the ignition on Just changed the 700's 2.5GB microdrive for an 8GB compact flash memory card so that I can add more maps and "toys". And it's a bit faster as well -------------------- GO700 - 8GB CF Card - System 7.162 - W&CE Map 6.75 - NA Map 7.20 - Saab 9-5 Aero Sportwagon Hirsch 300 + satnav

I haven't complained - and don't think I'd get far anyway ... using unauthorised software !! Ah yes, true. Stupid of me.... QUOTE I have seen a 700 using V8 software and V8 maps - obviously illegal versions - Not necessarily... there is nothing to stop you buying any version map from their website (rather than through Home) and some people were managing to get the v8 ones to download and instal on the "wrong" machine. QUOTE and find it a somewhat weird business plan by TT that they don't make this available for legacy versions.. They usually do, eventually... always have done before. The business plan is to try to get as many people buying the new unit, so they don't want to release the new software/maps too soon, but they appear after a few months. |
