Now on yourNAV:
Navteq brings Traffic Patterns to Europe

In competition to TomTom’s IQ routes which were introduced yesterday, Navteq now also presents a smart solution for efficient route calculation.

FInallyyyyyyyyyyy a better routing method algorithm.. been saying it for years.. GPS road systems stopped progessing just after they invented the short, longest etc.. routing methods. I guess this is a form of fuzzy logic whereby the system is taking into account trends, timetables and calculating various methods based on dynamic parameters. Now road systems can finally move forward and I wish companies would stop wasting time with stupid gimmicks like mp3 players.. if we dont already have enough of those on the market (and much better ones too!)

Now let's think a moment...

weekday, some random city

local road A congested because of users routed by TomTom IQ Road
local road B congested because of users routed by Navteq Traffic Pattern

main road empty, driven by cars without sat nav

sorry, could not resist :-)

Of course the feature is more than welcome, to me however this looks as some sort of
forced reply to TomTom IQ solution. Note that TomTom presents us a working solution
while NAVTEQ is just talking future. "we will" "Germany will be first" etc.

I suppose they did not thought about this much, until the saw TomTom information
yesterday,

Steady on, we don't know that it works yet!

Well of course it has to work! but it sounds like 'real progress' with regards to auto routing systems.

Your forgetting TMC / HD TMC.. if roads A & B are congested then the TT's will calculate an alternative route!! wink.gif

With any system the nav systems needs the 'whole story' (like ourselves) before calculating/thinking a 'good route' if we dont know the road conditions then 'best routing' is guess work.

Time will tell I guess when the TT Guinea pigs, sorry, new customers, pleasantry.gif have done the Beta testing on the X30's or when the launch V8 for the rest of us to test.
