TomTom users had to do without Map Share corrections for almost a fortnight. Reason for this was server problems at TomTom, which stood in the way of a flawless operation of the service. Instead of keeping the servers online half-working, TomTom has opted to bring the entire service down until the issue could be resolved.Repair
It seems now the company is starting to get things in order again, because they have just started to put a number of map versions for distribution via the desktop program HOME back online. To make sure no new problems arise, TomTom has opted to activate the distribution of corrections step by step. Today they have started with the specific additions and changes of the first map versions, the rest will follow tomorrow and throughout next week. One important point to note is that from now on Map Share will work with weekly updates instead of daily ones.
Map Share
Map Share is a technology developed by TomTom which enables users to make correction to the mapping material on their SatNavs themselves, like (un)blocking streets, changing driving direction, altering street names and adding POI’s, speed limitations and turn limitations. The corrections made are immediately active on the originators device, but these corrections can also be shared with other TomTom users via the HOME PC application.Currently, Map Share is operational in thirty countries, spread over five continents.
