TomTom fixes Map Share distribution

After not having distributed any Map Share corrections for almost a fortnight, TomTom has now (gradually) started repairing the distribution.

By yourNAV editors
TomTom fixes Map Share distributionTomTom users had to do without Map Share corrections for almost a fortnight. Reason for this was server problems at TomTom, which stood in the way of a flawless operation of the service. Instead of keeping the servers online half-working, TomTom has opted to bring the entire service down until the issue could be resolved.

Repair
It seems now the company is starting to get things in order again, because they have just started to put a number of map versions for distribution via the desktop program HOME back online.

To make sure no new problems arise, TomTom has opted to activate the distribution of corrections step by step. Today they have started with the specific additions and changes of the first map versions, the rest will follow tomorrow and throughout next week. One important point to note is that from now on Map Share will work with weekly updates instead of daily ones.

Map Share
Map Share is a technology developed by TomTom which enables users to make correction to the mapping material on their SatNavs themselves, like (un)blocking streets, changing driving direction, altering street names and adding POI’s, speed limitations and turn limitations. The corrections made are immediately active on the originators device, but these corrections can also be shared with other TomTom users via the HOME PC application.

Currently, Map Share is operational in thirty countries, spread over five continents.

Three further update to my support question - any replies? You guess!!

Wonderful TT Service. Not the front line guy's fault, he's just getting no info from 2nd & 3rd ine and Management.

anchor TomTom Safety Cameras have still not been updated. The last one I got was 17 days ago.

Reported this 2 days ago, and received this rely:

"We currently cannot offer you an immediate suitable solution for this problem. We have sent your question to our 2nd line technical department".

I also requested that my camera subscription should be extended to cover the period that weekly updates are not available.

Andy_P At last!
map v715 W+CE updated at 21:20 - 12.5 MB of corrections.
Still being offered a v6 map by Home!

But the Status indicator is now ONLY telling me newer versions of my map are available, no mention of how many MapShares in use.
How are others getting that info?

All my map share updates have disappeared and I can no longer find anything which tells me how many map share updates are in use. At some stage recently, I think they were all removed. They definitely seem to have broken the system.

Andy_P Nick, if you look back through this topic, you'll see that Home v2.4 was designed to remove all the mapshare corrections first, this was because they were changing something slightly and wanted everybody to start at the same level. Unfortunately they launched that at the same time when as they broke the download system, so no-one could get the corrections back.
You'd also see that has been the situation for about two weeks, and you'd also see that over the last 24 hours or so, they have been slowly bringing the system back up again, one map at a time.

The Mapshare correction indicator has been updated to include the status of the base map itself as well, to encourage people to use the new update subscription service. I finally got updates for my map late last night and I have seen the Mapshare indicator show the number of corrections briefly, but most of the time it sits on the other display telling you how out of date the base map is. I'm awaiting anyone who can work out how to get it into each mode on demand.

Interesting! My indicator works the same way as in previous versions of Home. I've checked using tools/home extensions etc. and it states that my mapshare indicator version is 1.5 and when I check for any extension updates it says that none are available. Andy, please could you check and let me know your indicator version number? Thanks.

I'll double check when I get home...

OK, thanks for the info. I'm wondering whether to uninstall and re-install my indicator ( because I'm a potcher ) or to leave well alone ( if it ain't broke, don't fix it ), lol.

gadget_sa Joy of Joys - it works... I got 0.3mb of updates??!! Doesn't sound much?!

It's gone from 192795 to 238523 - over 40,000 updates!!

So here's another one for Andys growing list - WE v8.05.1801

Oh, and my Mapshare Counter is v1.2?? How do you get v1.5?

Andy_P Not my list, it's Bart's... smile.gif

But as I know he's away from the site tonight, I hope he wont mind if I add those two map versions for him.
(EEK! I've never edited an Admins post before... is it allowed?!)

Bigade - Yes my Mapshare counter is 1.5.

A guy over on PGPSW seems to have worked out the way to get both sets of info out of the MapStatus indicator:

QUOTE
Mine will show me my mapshare corrections number on my ONE XL when I {first} connect to computer,
{but} as soon as I either login or press the update button, it then tells me my map is out of date.

EDITED: I have just confirmed this works for me. I connected and updated, it shows me my map is out of date.
I then closed Home using the red x top right corner and then re-opened it from the system tray bottom right corner of desktop (next to clock) and bingo, the number of mapshares in use is shown {before I log in}..
Hope this helps.

Gadget_sa - Try going to (in the Home menus) / Tools / Home Extensions. That gives me a list of two items - the Status indicator and "Tyre". Hopefully the entry for the indicator should let you download the latest version.

Antoeknee My trusty TT500 with UK and Ireland v725.1883 still isn't getting anything.

As my map version isn't in Barts list I'll have to assume its one of the map versions that will be updates later this week

Having updated my GO920 to the latest (Western_and_Central_Europe 810.1907) the number of corrections is shown all the time. On my wife's GO520 which has not been updated yet to the latest map the behaviour is exactly as you describe. Obviously TT want us all to upgrade!

Nice one Menace! You confirmed what I thought. After confirming I had the same indicator version as Andy, I was worried that mine was working incorrectly but after thinking about it I realised my maps are up to date and therefore it wouldn't be apt to display my map is out of date on the indicator. Glad I left well alone. yahoo.gif

One trick I have found with 2.4.0.104 to show the number of map share corrections is:
- with HOME open, choose File, Close
- then on the HOME icon in the task tray, double click it to start HOME

The count is then displayed instead of the offer to update my map.
