PC owners using the Windows OS have been able to use the handy Garmin PC MapSource application for some time now. For a few days now, Apple Macintosh users can download the new RoadTrip application and use it combined with their Garmin SatNav.Bobcat
From January this year, Garmin ran an extensive beta test called ‘Project Bobcat’, the code name for what was to become RoadTrip. For months, owners of Garmin SatNavs tested out the new software, and after eight revisions, the software was finally deemed stable enough to be released to the general public.RoadTrip, which can now be downloaded with version number 2.0.1. contains the following features:
» Locating POI’s on the Mac, and then copying those search results to the SatNav
» Installing map material and activation codes to the SatNav with MapManager
» Synchronizing waypoints and routes between the Mac and the SatNav, including the managing of your route data by means of map material on the unit.

Roadtrip for Apple Macintosh can be downloaded from this page on the Garmin website. There are a few minimum system requirements though: you need MacOS 10.4 or better (10.5 or better is recommended), 512 MB of RAM (1 GB recommended) and of course a USB port to plug the SatNav into.Garmin has already been offering the MapConverter tool for a while now. This tool converts activation codes from Windows PC’s to the Macintosh format. MapConverter can also be downloaded for free from the Garmin website. These newly available tools mean a new era for the Garmin-Mac owners, who can now finally manage their SatNav without ever needing a Windows PC again.
