TomTom has begun the sales of new 7.20 and 8.05 maps for all their devices. These new maps are based on the 2008.1 release by Tele Atlas.

Today, TomTom started to offer new map material for all their navigational units. The company has released maps under version number 8.05 for GO x30 owners and 7.20 for the owners of all other devices. The mapping material for both is based on the January release (2008.1) of map supplier Tele Atlas.
As with the previous update, the mapping material is only for sale as a direct download from TomTom’s servers, so these maps will not be available on DVD, CD or SD in any (online) shops. The download of such large files can sometimes take a very long time, but once complete, installation of the new maps should be very simple via TomTom’s free desktop application HOME.
8.05-maps
The map update for the recently released GO x30 series can be used as a replacement of the 8.00 map version shipped with the unit. Of course, this new map also supports all the new NavCore 8 functionality such as IQ Routes and Advanced Lane Guidance.
With their aptly-named ‘Latest map guarantee’, TomTom offers a free update to the latest maps available, if new maps get released within 30 days of the purchase of your device. Since the GO x30 model has only been made available very recently, we can imagine every x30 owner will be entitled to this free upgrade.
7.20-maps
For devices which still use NavCore 7 software (all TomTom devices except the x30 series), TomTom has released new 7.20 maps. These maps are based on the same raw mapping data but don’t contain the extra new functions mentioned above. However, they are also a fair bit cheaper than the v8 versions. Please bear in mind though, that you’ll need the v8 maps to be able to use these new features if and when NavCore 8 becomes available for other TomTom devices in the future. To date, TomTom has not released any information about whether this upgrade for non-x30 devices will ever happen or not…

I'm afraid people have tried to argue this one before, without success. TomTom are adamant that the terms say only ONE update allowed within the thirty days, and I think they are factually (if not morally) correct there. That's why it's best to hang on as long as possible before you claim.
They also tried to say that the same clause meant they didn't have to supply the US maps as well as the Europe ones for a 920, but they didn't have a leg to stand on with that one!
Not so remember Andy...
I ranted to them about this, after my first Go 720 which came with 7.05, was updated to 7.10 the day I got it as this was already out, but not on my device.
Then in the 30 days since buying, v7.15 came out.
They said I had already used the LMG when I tried to downlaod v7.15 - but I raised Holy Hell, especially given their wording about a" map RELEASED AFTER your device came out" (check their website for the full wording of the LMG and you will see it says this), which did not, under law, cover the v7.10 which was newer than the one on the device out the box, but was NOT released AFTER I bought my device.
Follow me here so far? Even the LMG Terms they referred me to, that are still up there now, specifically talk about being able to update to a "map released after you bought your device". Bad wording, but that's what they say.
So I claimed that in trying to point me to the relevant terms and law, they had shot their own foot off, as by upgrading to v.710, a map indeed newer than the one my device came with, but which was NOT released AFTER I bought my device, as their LMG terms state, then I had NOT used up my LMG as they claimed.
It took a lot of second line arguing, but eventually they DID cave in and give me the v7.15 map - and the wrong one at that - W & CENTRAL Europe - due to me mentioning this 'accidentally' in prior emails, and they just went with what I said, once they gave in.
Course, they only went and did this on the day I had to return my Go 720 for a new one, so I got a NEW LMG with the new device anyway.
Ironic, or what.
But summarising, by their legal wording, and me pointing out this, and sticking to my guns, they DID give in to someone over this.
Me *lol* |
