TomTom releases HOME 2.2Version 2.2 of TomTom’s HOME desktop application is now available for download. Apart from a number of cosmetic changes and some Map Share fine-tuning, there’s also a completely new function available: the sharing of content with other TomTom users.

Content
The new option is not limited to only downloading new things. It also enables users to upload their own creations to the TomTom server, from which the files will be made available for download to other users. This can be all sorts of content: POI’s, routes, voices, car icons, start-up and shut-down splash screens, colour schemes, warning sounds and ringtones.

The new upload feature should still be considered to be a bèta version, according to TomTom. Problems with it can not be ruled out. During our first tests, the uploading failed constantly and we got all sorts of error messages. After some time these errors were fixed though, and we were able to make our first contribution…

Map Share
The HOME updates with regards to Map Share are minimal, but nice. Now it’s possible to specify for which countries you would like to receive map corrections. The number of map corrections used is now also shown in a little info box in the top right-hand side of the HOME screen.

To summarize
Here's an list of all the new features in HOME 2.2:
- User content creation
- Easy content download – just select like any other content
- Voting – to see what the community thinks is hot and what’s not.
- User generated content shows up under the list of TomTom content.

Specific content that can be shared includes:

  • POI’s and proximity warning tones

  • Routes/itineraries

  • Voices

  • Car icons

  • Start up and suspend pictures

  • Map overlays/imagery

  • Color schemes

  • Arrival sounds

  • Speed warning sounds

  • Ringtones

  • Incoming message tones

-> TomTom HOME 2.2 will be available in both Windows and Mac versions.

Installation
The newest TomTom HOME version downloads and is then is offered for installation as soon as the old version is started. Those who have not yet installed HOME can download the complete package from the TomTom site, completely free of charge.

Umm... Where is the new Mac version of Tom Tom Home? The download page on the Tom Tom Website still gives me the antiquated version 1.5, and the Check For Updates option in Home says that no update is available. dry.gif

...except, it seems, for GO Classics. Just updated Home, and MapShare Corrections disappears from the screen when my Go Classic is connected. Clicking on MapShare preferences from the Tools menu shows I have no countries to choose from.

Anyone know where I can get Home 2.1 to re-install? Or am I missing something?

Andy Wellings Hmmm, seems I can't edit my previous post. Never mind.

Extra to Home 2.2 not "working" for my Classic Go, I've now had a message come up on Home home page(?) saying "Your map is 19 weeks out of date 12525 free mapshare map corrections waiting"

Odd, because I only bought my new map 12 Dec 2007, and it has been regularly updated using Home 2.1 until about an hour ago.

Is this a cackhanded way of phasing out the old Go's?

EDIT - I'll carry this on here http://www.yournav.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11406 - thanks Gadget

Yes, to keep all the Home v2.2 discussion in the same place, can you use that link.
I'll lock this one (unless Bart overrules me! unsure.gif )
