New Volvo with Garmin nüvi optionLeading manufacturer, Garmin, are trying their hardest to grab the largest part of the PND market. One way to sell as many devices as possible is by making agreements with car manufacturers. TomTom did it once in the past, when they made a deal with Toyota to ship a ONE with the Yaris, and now Garmin have made a deal with Volvo.

Volvo
Starting this December, it will be possible to buy a Garmin nüvi 760 as an accessory for different Volvo models. The navigational system is to be shipped with a special dashboard mount for the C30 and the XC70. Typically, Volvo has done some research into the most efficient location to position a PND, so they promise optimal ease of use, while not compromising the view of the road.
The mount has been planned to match the style of the Volvo interior, and the design makes sure that all the necessary cables are neatly tucked away. Of course it’s also possible to remove the navigational system from the mount so it’s not all too inviting for criminals and the mount can then be folded up out of the way. Below this newspost, you’ll find a photo of the mount.

The choice of the nüvi 760 as an accessory for their cars was an obvious one for Volvo. According to them, the device excels through its design and functionality. The 760 is advanced, simple to operate and lives up to the quality, design and safety demands that Volvo drivers have become accustomed to.

Specifications
The nüvi 760 is shipped as standard with European mapping and it offers handsfree phoning through Bluetooth. The built-in FM transmitter allows the PND sound to be played through the car stereo. An mp3 jukebox player and a photo album are also standard features of the nüvi 760.

The navigation commands are given via Text-to-Speech, so street and city names are spoken out loud. The nüvi 760 features a 4.3 inch display.

The Volvo-badged version of the nüvi 760 will be available at Volvo dealers from next month. Unfortunately, the price of this accessory is not yet known.

Draca why would i want to buy a pleasantry.gif volvo pleasantry.gif ... and equipped with a garmin pleasantry.gif navi pleasantry.gif to that..

Volvo makes pseudo luxury cars that are way too expensive without any real benefits and they are real gas guzzlers as well...

well this is good for garmin i guess, because no one wants to buy those overpriced volvo navi's that sell for ¤2500 a piece.

I've never understood this.

The cost of a car in the UK (small cheap ones) is around £6000 to £8000 pounds.

Why not just do a deal with TomTom or Garmin, Make a hole in the dash panel and fit one of these devices into the low end cars as standard?

Rather than trying to sell a £1000 SatNav system?

It would lead to millions of sales for TomTom or Garmin. buyers of low end cars would get SatNav as standard.
Would make lost of money for SatNav Companies.
Would be a good promotional items for the car sellers.

It's so obvious, I don't understand why they don't do it?

OK Draca, now we all now that you don't have the money to buy a Volvo or a Garmin. Interesting mellow.gif
Garmin 720 + installation in a Volvo car at a Volvodealer for a cost of less then 600¤. That's cheap.
