Makayama has developed several different products in the past few years all of which enabled you to play videos, DVD’s and pre-recorded TV shows on iPods, Smartphones, digital cameras, Playstation Portable and TomTom navigational systems. For all these different devices and platforms, different products have been developed and marketed. That’s all in the past now though, with the release of Mobile TV Center 1.0.By using Microsoft Windows Media Center, Mobile TV Center 1.0 allows you to display TV broadcasts on no less than 500 different devices, among which are a few navigational systems by TomTom (the complete GO series), Garmin (the not so popular iQue series) and Mio (A201, 168, 528, 558 and H610).
Media Center
Makayama’s product is designed for use with Windows Media Center, which is available with some versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. After installing the software, the user can record TV programmes using the Mobile TV Center, following which the software automatically converts the recorded files for playback on PND, Smartphone, PocketPC, or iPod. Movies, game shows, cartoons, video clips or other programmes can be moved by SD card or USB interface to the navigational system which will be used for playback. The Media Center software is smart and powerful enough to be able to record, convert and move the files all in one go, completely automatically.Makayama’s Mobile TV Center 1.0 product is a unique piece of software. It’s the only software which enables users to play recorded TV shows back on so many different devices. Mobile TV Center 1.0 can be bought for ¤ 29.95 through Makayama’s website. A trial version of the software, with a recording time limited to 10 minutes, can also be downloaded from the same website. To download the trial/demo version, click here.
TomTom
Owners of a TomTom GO need to install a video player on their PND before they can playback the video files. This video player is a free download. And finally: Mobile TV Center 1.0 is, just like Makayama’s former products for TomTom, only meant for the GO series (Classic, 300, 500, 700, 510, 710 and 910). The RIDER and the ONE are not supported by this software.
Vindent Verweij, CEO of Makayama explains why: "we would need to develop separate drivers for the ONE and the RIDER should we want to support those, because they use different hardware for the display and audio. This means a lot a work and thus cost for a relatively small market. Our TomTom software only represents a small part of our total market share compared to our Pocket PC version. It's simply not worthwhile".
