Garmin opens first shop in USWe mentioned this last month when we reported about the new Garmin logo: Garmin is shifting into a higher gear in order to point consumers towards their GPS products. In the run-up to the Christmas season, Garmin has just opened their first store on Michigan Avenue in the city of Chicago.

Unique
The Garmin Shop is the first, and so far only, shop in the world which specialises entirely in GPS technology, according to Garmin. Potential customers are welcome to try out and buy any of Garmin’s fifty-plus GPS products, in the two-storey store.

Kevin Rauckman, Garmin's Chief Financial Officer, says: "Michigan Avenue’s vibrant shopping area is an ideal place for the Garmin store. We expect the store to attract a very diverse audience.
From those who already own a Garmin GPS, to window shoppers who are intrigued by what they see, the Garmin store is the perfect place for people to come to test our products and discover which one best fits their lifestyle."

Of course lots of knowledgeable staff can be found in the shop, who can answer any questions about GPS in general and the Garmin products in particular.

As seen in the photos below, the shop also houses a small but unique (and hyper-modern) theatre, where customers can attend presentations on GPS technology and Garmin's latest products.

I wonder if there is any reason for that….like Currys, PC World, Comet Maplins etc etc all stocking GPS stuff, even Garmin kit already? search.gif

Mind you, if it were a TomTom shop, I guess it would not take up a massive amount of Mall space! A phone box would do!! blum.gif

stingray Actually Garmin got their facts slightly wrong.. there are at least 2 dedicated GPS stores within 20 miles of me! One of them opened up about 8 years ago in west London. However, as im a Garmin'ite, I'd like to see a dedicate Garmin shop in London.

Andy_P Yes, I thought that was a rather bold claim!

Just checked it for accuracy and they do say the same thing in the press release on Garmin's own site...
