Successors
The new devices are the true successors of the Nav-U50 and Nav-U70, which are currently still available. The new versions are about the same size, but they are a bit flatter (33 mm), lighter (280 grams) and feature the SiRF Star III chipset. The Nav-U51 and Nav-U71T are mainly identical. The differences lay in the support of TMC (standard on U71T, optional on U51), and the supplied maps: the 512 MB of memory in the U51 contains a regional map, and the U71T comes with 2 GB of memory that contains a detailed pan-European map. Both devices ship with a collection of safety camera POI?s, which can be updated for free for one month. An annual subscription for the camera updates can be purchased as an optional extra.
Draw & Go!
Completely new are the so-called 'Gesture-Commands'. This enables the user to 'draw' commands onto the 3.5-inch touch screen. By means of drawing a simple line or shape onto the screen, the most popular commands like 'take me home' or 'to the nearest petrol station' can be entered.Sony have advised us that the U71T will ship for a recommended retail price of ¤ 449, while the U51 will sell for ¤ 299. Both devices should become available for purchase commencing week 50 (mid-December).
