We were a bit surprised when Navman announced the specifications of their new iCN series last March. What to think of the new iCN 720 and iCN 750 with a built-in photo camera? But it became apparent soon that this unique functionality would be a handy navigational tool. NavPix
"One photo says more than a thousand words". With that idea in mind, Navman introduced an entirely new way of navigating: NavPix. With this, the destination is no longer selected based on an address or GPS coordinates, but purely by means of a photo. The user selects the image of his destination, and the iCN then calculates the optimal route to it.Of course, that's also the reason for the built-in photo camera. It enables owners of a iCN 720 or iCN 750 to take snapshots of their favourite desitinations. Once the snapshot is taken, it's saved onto the iCN, and GPS coordinates of the place where the photo was taken are added to the image, combined with the address and sometimes even postal code. This photo is from then on usuable for navigation.
LibraryEssential for the functionality of an option like NavPix, is the availability of enough photo's of possible destinations. And for this reason, Navman has now put the NavPix library online. In this library, many destinations can be found, sorted by category. Registered users may also upload their own NavPix-albums onto the system.
Special tools have also been made available, so that normal photo's can be converted to NavPix photo's with added coordinates.
